Reflections on Mentone Magyck: The 2007 ARCI Retreat
by Wendy Sue Wahl

My coming-of-age years were in a small agricultural community north of Seattle. Anchoring the valley crossroads was a turf farm. All these years later I can admit to sneaking out of the bedroom window with my girlfriend, walking the darkened streets of our small town – past the local airport and around the bicycle tree to meet “the boys.”

As we walked, there was an air of excitement and the anticipation of discovery. “The boys” met us in the middle of the turf farm and we sat “discovering.” As we talked, the fog began to show itself – first at feet level, then rolling higher to our knees, rising to our waists, and eventually engulfing the four of us in an eerily mystical solitude of togetherness.

Thirty-five years later, I still feel the magyck of that fog presence. “The boys” have disappeared into ex-boyfriend heaven, my girlfriend is married with grandchildren, and I am engulfed in the mystery of the Akashic Records.

ARCI Retreat Participants

When thirteen of us met at Skye Island retreat near Mentone, Alabama in April 2007, I was once again reminded of the mysticism and magyck that convene when spirits of like intent, pure heart, and innocent nature come together for a time of discovery. The naturalness of being surrounded by acres of Earth’s eternal beauty, swaddled us in peace and harmony. Within this blanket of safety, my fellow ARCI members and I joined to go deeper into our true selves through the Akashic Records.

This was just the wrapping for the real gift of the weekend – camaraderie, the melding of hearts into purpose, deep self-discovery, and beliefs fading into truth.

The Truth of this retreat weekend –

To stand in the middle of a room filled with love – pure love – surrounding you, feeling awe-inspired support circled in chairs, uplifting and believing in you; sisters and brothers holding the space for shedding of the old, draping the robes of the new onto your shoulders – cleansed by the wisdom of the Record Keepers.

This is my magyck now. This is the anchoring of my life crossroads. This is what creates an air of excitement and the anticipation of discovery for me today. This is the mystical solitude of togetherness in all my forever afters

The land at Skye Island is an intentional setting, which allows participants to be fully immersed in a retreat agenda. Our host, Glenda Garber, provided two fabulous, healthy meals each day. Breakfast was a do-it-yourself affair with a wide variety of choices. We had options for sitting on an immense wrap-around porch in rocking chairs, soaking in the hot tub in the moonlight, or walking, sans t-shirts, in the hot morning sunlight. There were even elementals speaking through the natural waterfalls, butterfly messengers, and ever-present ravens.

Disciple of the Truth
A Poem by Wendy Sue Wahl

The drumming spreads over the valley,
early morning birdsong heralding the arrival of
      the sun.

The resonance of this beating enters my ears and
   coagulates my beingness,
healing my spirit, mind and body.

The walk on this plane,
   previously hidden by dense fog
has come into view with clarity.

Doubt, shame, blame and sadness left behind
   – burned away by the heat of truth.

I emerge naked, picked clean by words of love.

I stand before you –
   devoted to the one true purpose;
     claiming my birthright as
        an emissary of information,

Stepping into my mantle as a disciple of the truth.
