Reflections on Mentone Magyck: The 2007 ARCI Retreat by Wendy Sue Wahl
My coming-of-age years were in a small agricultural community north of Seattle. Anchoring the valley crossroads was a turf farm. All these years later I can admit to sneaking out of the bedroom window with my girlfriend, walking the darkened streets of our small town – past the local airport and around the bicycle tree to meet “the boys.”
As we walked, there was an air of excitement and the anticipation of discovery. “The boys” met us in the middle of the turf farm and we sat “discovering.” As we talked, the fog began to show itself – first at feet level, then rolling higher to our knees, rising to our waists, and eventually engulfing the four of us in an eerily mystical solitude of togetherness.
Thirty-five years later, I still feel the magyck of that fog presence. “The boys” have disappeared into ex-boyfriend heaven, my girlfriend is married with grandchildren, and I am engulfed in the mystery of the Akashic Records.
When thirteen of us met at Skye Island retreat near Mentone, Alabama in April 2007, I was once again reminded of the mysticism and magyck that convene when spirits of like intent, pure heart, and innocent nature come together for a time of discovery. The naturalness of being surrounded by acres of Earth’s eternal beauty, swaddled us in peace and harmony. Within this blanket of safety, my fellow ARCI members and I joined to go deeper into our true selves through the Akashic Records.
